The hardest part of our homeschool year is actually teaching the older one while somehow entertaining or distracting the younger one. The toddler wants to be involved in everything and tries to mimic what I say so it becomes very difficult for my older one to pay attention. Am I the only one that has to deal with this?!
One of the units we studied last year was Marine Biology. (On a separate note, The Good and the Beautiful’s Marine Biology unit is a free PDF download. This is the one we used and we LOVED it. If you are looking at their resources and want to try a sample before buying, it’s a perfect science unit to try!) I was trying to come up with a plan for my toddler to keep her occupied while we studied each day. Since she always wants to be involved in everything we do, I came up with the perfect solution – I made my own ocean themed activity pack for for littles! It’s perfect for preK through early education as a few of the things included were actually made for my older daughter to do.
Included in the activity pack are plenty of ideas for math, literacy and science centers as well as extra games and activities. The math centers include flashcards, counting objects, patterns, size comparisons and crafts. The literacy centers include prewriting and letter tracing practice and beginning sounds. For science, you can sort animals land versus water, parts of a fish and ocean zones. Finally, take brain breaks with movement games, I Spy activities, and coloring pages.
